Sinclair President Steve Johnson and Ohio State University College of Engineering Dean David B. Williams will announce a new strategic partnership between the two institutions at a press conference at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 7 in Building 13 of the Sinclair Dayton Campus.

The event will also feature remarks from Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor John Carey and state and local partners in the effort to build a thriving unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) industry in the Dayton region, and also include a demonstration of the innovative and interactive work being accomplished through this partnership.

Sinclair recently received $4 million in state funding to renovate and expand their physical location on the Dayton campus to support the mission of the National Center for UAS Training and Education.

Through the partnership, Ohio State and Sinclair will develop pathways from existing Sinclair UAS certificate and future UAS associate degree programs into Ohio State data analytics and geospatial precision agriculture programs. Additionally, Ohio State students will have the opportunity to take general education courses through Ohio State and, upon completing UAS technical courses at Sinclair, to earn a certificate or degree through Sinclair.

The two institutions will also seek to expand upon existing UAS resources in airspace and UAS vehicles and will in the future seek an FAA Certificate of Authorization (COA) to fly over the Don Scott Airport and the Molly Caren Agricultural Facility to provide new and innovative precision agriculture programming.
