MEDIA ADVISORY: New state law improves veteran access to higher education

WHAT: A media availability to outline new guidelines for state colleges and universities to support veterans, and to showcase the practices already in place at Ohio State.

WHEN: 2:30 p.m., on Monday, July 14.

WHERE: Ohio State University Student-Veteran Lounge, 1132 Smith Laboratory, 174 W. 18th Ave. Due to construction projects near the building, close-proximity media parking is very limited. Media parking is available (with your media parking permit) on 17th Ave.

The Ohio Board of Regents is working to implement a new state law that directs public colleges and universities to increase access to counseling, courses and credit for veterans. Chancellor John Carey will tour Ohio State’s Student-Veteran Lounge and discuss the new guidelines at 2:30 p.m. in the lounge, located in room 1132A, Smith Laboratory, 174 W. 18th Ave.

In addition, Wayne Carlson, vice provost for undergraduate studies and Mike Carrell, assistant provost and director of the Office of Military and Veterans Services, will explain the comprehensive resources available at Ohio State for military and veteran students. Current veteran students will also be available for interviews.
