Advisory: Economic Summit Sept. 8

                           NEWS ADVISORY:
       BUSINESS/GOVERNMENT/UNIVERSITY ALLIANCE IS TOPIC OF
      SECOND ANNUAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MEETING ON SEPT. 8

     The Ohio State University and the Greater Columbus Chamber 
of Commerce are sponsoring an economic development summit on 
Friday, Sept.8, at the Wexner Center for the Arts on the Ohio 
State campus.

     The event will begin with a buffet breakfast at 7:30 a.m. in 
the Mershon Auditorium lobby.  At 8 a.m.,the formal program 
begins in the Wexner Center's film/video theater.  The highligh 
is a panel discussion by: Bernard J. LaLonde, professor emeritus 
of transportation and logistics at Ohio State; C. Lee Johnson, 
president of Limited Distribution Services; Edward J. Ray, 
professor of economics and senior vice provost at Ohio State; and 
Robert J. Massey, president and chief executive officer of 
CompuServe Inc.  Their program, "Bridging the Future: The Need 
for a Business, Government and University Coalition," will focus 
on how these three groups can work together to build a better 
economic future for the Columbus area.

     Speaking briefly will be Columbus Mayor Gregory Lashutka, 
Franklin County Commissioner Arlene Shoemaker, Ohio State 
President E. Gordon Gee, and Chamber President Jonathan L. York.  
Sarah S. Austin, special assistant to the president for business 
and community relations at Ohio State, will be the moderator.

     Members of the news media are invited to attend the summit 
and to remain after the formal program for a question and answer 
session with the panelists.  There will be reserved seating near 
the front of the theater for media.  Your cooperation in sitting 
there will help enable us to start the news conference promptly 
at 9 a.m., as well as ensure that you have seat for the event, 
which is expected to attract a capacity crowd of local business 
leaders.
