Advisory: Sen. Glenn to Hold Hearing on Aging at Ohio State

                          NEWS ADVISORY:
    SENATOR GLENN TO HOLD HEARING ON AGING AT OHIO STATE

Sen. John Glenn will bring the U.S. Senate Special Committees on 
Aging to The Ohio State University on Monday (4/27) for a hearing, 
"Elder Care Today and Tomorrow."  The hearing will be held in the 
Fawcett Center auditorium, 2400 Olentangy River Road, from 9:30 a.m. 
to approximately noon.  It will be followed by a brief news conference 
with Glenn and the other panelists.

Witnesses at the hearing will include Bernadine Healy, dean of 
the College of Medicine and Public Health at Ohio State and former 
director of the National Institutes of Health; Robert N. Butler, 
chairman of the International Longevity Center in New York City and 
founding director of the National Institute on Aging; Bonnie  Kantor, 
director of Ohio State's Office of Geriatrics and Gerontology; Connie 
Schmitt, director of TriHealth SeniorLink in Cincinnati; Martin Janis 
of Toledo, founder of what is now the Ohio Department of Aging; Matt 
Ottinger, legislative liaison for the Ohio Department of Aging; and 
Cindy Farson, director of the Central Ohio Agency on Aging.

The hearing is open to the public, but space is limited.  To 
ensure that sufficient seating is reserved for media personnel, we are 
asking that you call Ruth Gerstner (292-8424) or Amy Murray (292-8385) 
at University Communications before 3 p.m. Friday (4/24) if you plan 
to attend.  Audio mult boxes will be provided in the auditorium and at 
the news conference, which will be held on the third floor of the 
Fawcett Center.  The auditorium presents some problems for 
photography, but camera positions will be available in the back, and 
photographers with handheld equipment will be able to make brief trips 
down the aisles for close-ups and cutaways.

The news conference will start as soon as possible after the 
conclusion of the hearing.  That should be between noon and 12:30 p.m.  
However, we recommend that television and radio reporters do not count 
on being able to go live from the news conference during their noon 
broadcasts.
