Alexis Collier Wins Schoen Award

PSYCHOLOGY PROFESSOR WINS LEADERSHIP AWARD AT OHIO STATE

     COLUMBUS -- Alexis Collier, of COLUMBUS (43214), an
associate professor of psychology at The Ohio State University,
has won the Kathryn T. Schoen Award.

     The $1,800 prize is awarded annually by university to a
female faculty or staff member to foster opportunities for
professional growth and leadership.

     Collier studies psychobiology, the biological basis of
behavior, with an emphasis on early development.  She earned her
Bachelor of Science degree in psychology at Virginia Polytechnic
Institute and State University and her doctorate in psychology at
the University of Washington.  Collier also did graduate study at
Princeton University.

     She has been active on the Council on Enrollment and Student
Progress and the Faculty Committee on Admissions.

     Collier plans to use her award money to attend the Academic
Management Institute of the National Center for Higher Education
Management Systems and provide feedback for concerns pertaining
to enrollment and student progress at Ohio State.

     Schoen, a resident of Logan, became the first woman to hold
a vice presidency at Ohio State when she was named vice president
for educational services in 1978.  She served on the faculties of
the colleges of Education, Medicine and Social and Behavioral
Sciences and as associate provost for faculties.  Schoen is now
vice president emeritus.
