Professor to speak on biosecurity at National Press Club
Plant pathologist part of bioterrorism panel
WASHINGTON, D.C. Laurence V. Madden, professor of plant pathology at The Ohio State University, will be a panelist on the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS) first roundtable discussion on bioterrorism. The event is from noon to 3 p.m. Friday in the National Press Clubs First Amendment Lounge.
Madden is a member of the National Academy of Sciences committee for the forthcoming report, "Biological Threats to Agricultural Plants and Animals," and senior author of the January 2002 BioScience article from AIBS titled, "A Population-Dynamic Approach to Assess the Threat of Plant Pathogens as Biological Weapons Against Annual Crops.
Madden joins Mark Wheelis, a microbiology professor at the University of California-Davis; Rocco Casagrande of Surface Logix, Brighton, Mass.; and a representative from the U.S. Department of Agriculture on the panel.
