California Here We Come!

COLUMBUS – While the Ohio State Buckeyes are getting ready for their 14th trip to the Pasadena Tournament of Roses, The Ohio State University Marching Band is also putting in its time on the practice field in preparation for the 121st Annual Rose Parade and 96th Rose Bowl Game presented by Citi.

By the time the game against the Oregon Ducks arrives on January 1st, the 225-member band, directors and support staff will have spent more than 16 hours in rehearsal and performed six scheduled concerts and pep rallies across Southern California.

The largest all-brass and percussion band in the world returns to Columbus on Sunday, December 27 for two intensive days of closed rehearsals at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. On Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and again from 7 to 9 in the evening, the band will practice the music for the pre-game and halftime shows. The band is also rehearsing Monday, December 28 from 9 a.m. to noon and 2 to 6 p.m., with marching and playing later in the latter part of each of the sessions. Then it's off to the west coast with a 5 a.m. flight the next morning.

The band plans to perform the show, The Motown Sound, during the halftime portion of the Rose Bowl. The show features some of pop music's favorite melodies from the 1960's and 70's.

In California, media are invited to cover the band's final public rehearsal before the Rose Bowl, at Glendale Community College Stadium, 1500 North Verdugo Road in Glendale, at 9 a.m. on Thursday, December 31. (Directions: take the Mountain Street exit east from the Glendale Freeway (Rt 2) and turn right at N. Verdugo Rd.) Former TBDBITL band members are welcome to bring instruments and play along at the end of the session. Previous rehearsals in other bowl cities have drawn crowds of over 4,000 alumni and local music fans.
