College Bound students to learn about nursing profession

As the nation faces a critical nursing shortage, The Ohio State University is trying to spark interest in the profession from some of the state’s urban youngsters.

A group of middle-school students in Ohio State’s College Bound program will learn first-hand some of the duties of nurses, including taking blood pressure and temperatures, and splinting arms and legs. They also will experiment with the lungs of healthy and unhealthy pigs. (This would make a great photo opportunity.)

The demonstrations will take place from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. on Friday (7/19) in room 272 of Newton Hall, 1585 Neil Avenue.

In its 7th year, the College Bound program offers an individualized schedule of academic and recreational activities for elementary and middle school students in Columbus and its surrounding areas. The program, which began June 10, lasts for 10 weeks. Among other things, the students work in computer labs, study an academic subject selected by their parents and take part in field trips to various places on campus and in Columbus.
