Columbus Public Schools students to showcase science projects

Eighth- and ninth-grade students from Franklin Alternative Middle School and Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center will present posters highlighting their year-long science projects for the Environmental Molecular Science Institute (EMSI) at The Ohio State University.

The event is set from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday (4/1) in 1000 McPherson Laboratory, 140 W. 18th Ave. Students will present their posters from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m., and an awards ceremony will take place afterward.

The students are participants in the institute’s Student Scientists' Program at Ohio State. The program introduces the students from Columbus Public Schools to original lab research by teaching them how to conduct their own experiments. With the help of researchers at the institute, students investigated factors that affect a harmful pollutant found in soil, water and air.
