Commencement guests should plan for hot, sunny weather

Very warm weather is forecast for Ohio State University’s spring commencement ceremony, which begins at noon on Sunday (6/10) in Ohio Stadium.

University Public Safety officials are encouraging guests to dress for heat and sunshine, plan to be well-hydrated and bring water to the ceremony.

Most stadium seating is not shaded, so guests should wear a hat and apply sunscreen.

Ohio State will have water misting stations available around the stadium if needed to help guests avoid heat-related medical issues. In addition, there will be six first Red Cross aid stations throughout the stadium.

There are concession stands located throughout Ohio Stadium. A courtesy cup of water may be requested at any permanent concession stand. In addition, commencement guests are permitted to bring their own bottled water into the stadium. And water fountains are located near sections 17A, 18A, 18C, 19C, South Stands and on D Deck.

Graduates will be provided with water bottles prior to their procession into the stadium.

Ohio State will award a record 10,642 degrees and certificates at the ceremony. Approximately 50,000 guests are expected to attend. Ambassador Susan E. Rice, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, will deliver the commencement address. The ceremony is the university's 400th commencement and Ohio State’s last on the academic quarter system.
