Conference to encourage women to seek public leadership roles

Ohio State will host a conference through Friday (6/17) to educate and empower college women to seek public leadership roles, including elective office.

National Education for Women's (NEW) Leadership Ohio is designed to address the underrepresentation of women in politics.

University trustee and former Ohio House Representatives Speaker Jo Ann Davidson is the featured speaker for the luncheon and graduation ceremony from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Friday (6/17) at the Faculty Club, 181 South Oval Drive. Davidson helped bring the NEW Leadership Ohio program to Ohio State.

Other honored guests for this year's conference include Ohio Auditor of State Betty Montgomery and Global Children's Organization board member Karen Fagerstrom.

Conference participants will learn from women in politics and policymaking, as well as educators in the field of women's studies and politics. They also will participate in hands-on skill-building workshops and discuss their own concepts of leadership.

The program is sponsored by the John Glenn Institute for Public Service and Public Policy and the Department of Women's Studies at Ohio State.
