David McCullough to appear in research lecture series

COLUMBUS – Noted historian and Pulitzer Prize winning author David McCullough will be the featured speaker in The Ohio State University Research Lecture Series at 4 p.m. Tuesday (5/13) at Mershon Auditorium, 1871 N. High St. A reception and book-signing will follow. The events are free and open to the public.

The lecture is titled “First Principles” and will feature McCullough’s perspective on world affairs and his thoughts on the need for greater understanding and appreciation of the country’s founding principles.

His literary works include “Truman,” recipient of the 1993 Pulitzer Prize in biography; “John Adams,” which reached No. 1 on The New York Times best-seller list in June 2001 and remained listed for more than a year; “Brave Companions;” “Mornings on Horseback;” and “The Great Bridge.”

McCullough graduated with honors in English literature from Yale University. He twice received the National Book Award and the prestigious Francis Parkman Prize, and also has received the Charles Frankel Prize from President Clinton and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

McCullough also is widely-known for his work on public television as host of “The American Experience” and as narrator of the award-winning documentary series “The Civil War.”

The lecture is co-sponsored by the Ohio State Office of Research and The John Glenn Institute for Public Service and Public Policy.
