Department of Education counselor to discuss ‘No Child Left Behind’

Susan Sclafani, counselor to the U.S. Secretary of Education, will discuss “The Secretary’s Mathematics and Science Initiative - What You Can Do to Ensure That No Child Is Left Behind” from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday (10/23). The event kicks off the School Science and Mathematics Association’s (SSMA) annual convention, which Ohio State is helping organize.

The convention runs from Thursday (10/23) through Saturday (10/25) at the Radisson Airport Hotel and Conference Center, 1375 North Cassady Ave.

In addition, Professor Alan McCormack from San Diego State University will discuss “Scientific and Magical World of Harry Potter” at noon on Friday (10/24).

The two sessions are among 200 planned for the conference, including 50 workshops specific to mathematics, science or technology. The sessions are aimed at helping to improve science and mathematics instruction for elementary, middle and secondary school teachers; supervisors; administrators; professional development providers; teacher educators; and university science and mathematics faculty.
