Derby Hall will be rededicated Friday

DERBY HALL WILL BE REDEDICATED FRIDAY

     Leaders of The Ohio State University will speak Friday
afternoon (10/29) at the rededication ceremony for Derby Hall,
home of the departments of Political Science, Geography and
Communication and the College of Social and Behavior Sciences.

     The rededication ceremony will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the
Gallery of Derby Hall, 154 N. Oval Mall.  A reception will follow
from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m.  Building tours will be offered from 3:45
to 5:30 p.m.

     During 1992-93, Derby Hall underwent a total renovation at a
cost of $11,030,000, including asbestos removal and furnishings.
The center court was reopened, the entrance to the building from
the Oval was redone, and up-to-date laboratories were installed
for the Department of Communication.  The building's interior of
110,744 square feet is quite attractive.

     Speaking at the ceremony will be E. Gordon Gee, president of
Ohio State, Richard Sisson, senior vice president for academic
affairs and provost, Randall Ripley, dean of the College of
Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Toby Parcel, associate dean
of the college.

     Derby Hall was originally completed as a chemistry building
in 1906 at a cost of $110,367.  The university's trustees in 1929
named the building in honor of Professor Samuel C. Derby, who had
a long career at Ohio State beginning in 1881.  The building was
enlarged and a third floor added in work that was completed in
1930.
