'Detachment' airs again at Studio 35 in Columbus

Those who didn’t see the premiere of the psychological thriller “Detachment,” created by Ohio State students through the Buckeye Searchlight competition, will get another chance from Friday (4/22) through Sunday (4/24) at Studio 35 in Columbus. All showings are at 10:30 p.m.

Students in the Video and Film Society spearheaded the feature-length film’s production, first released in November 2004, which involved more than 50 people. Students were involved in all aspects of the project, from the business to the editing, and from the talent auditions to designing the set and costumes.

“Detachment” took three weeks to film at various campus locations. It describes the plight of a young woman as she questions the meaning of reality. In group therapy, the main character, Sarah, faces her reoccurring dreams and is forced to analyze them.

Buckeye Searchlight, created by two Ohio State students as a project of the university’s Film and Video Society, is an independent student film project modeled after HBO’s “Project Green Light.” It started as a local screenwriting competition during Autumn Quarter 2003 that more than 200 writers entered. A committee of students, faculty members and movie industry professionals selected the winning screenplay.
