Dreese Lab Dedication; CIS anniversary

          DREESE LABORATORY DEDICATION FRIDAY AT 3 P.M.
25TH ANNIVERSARY OF COMPUTER & INFORMATION SCIENCE DEPT. SATURDAY

     The College of Engineering at The Ohio State University will
celebrate two milestones this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28 and
29: the opening of a major new facility for the departments of
Electrical Engineering and Computer and Information Science, and
the 25th anniversary of the Department of Computer and
Information Science.

     On Friday afternoon, a ribbon cutting and dedication
ceremony will be held for the new $20 million expansion of Dreese
Laboratory, 2015 Neil Ave.  Ceremonies will begin at 3 p.m. in
the covered walkway between Dreese Laboratory and Baker Systems
Engineering Building.  President E. Gordon Gee will be the
featured speaker, and several student and faculty representatives
will make brief remarks.  A reception will follow in the eighth
floor lounge.

     On Saturday, the Department of Computer and Information
Science will observe its 25th anniversary with a series of events
for alumni and other interested persons.  Dreese Laboratory will
be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for building tours and exhibits of
current departmental activities, including information systems
for brain tumor research, graphics, software reuse, walkthrough
complex virtual envirnoments, intelligent simulations, and many
others.  Three distinguished alumni will present a program from 3
to 4 p.m. in 113 Dreese.  Other events include an alumni
luncheon, initiation for the CIS honorary and an evening banquet.

     The nine-story Dreese Laboratory addition, which opened for use
this fall, adds some 90,000 square feet and provides new
facilities for Electrical Engineering's clean room and high
voltage laboratories, as well as several computer labs for
research and teaching.  It has advanced telecommunications
networking in offices and labs, as well as experimental computer-
supported instruction, consulting and grading.
