Bio

Dr. Gilbert Greene conducts research and scholarship on clinical social work practice with individuals, groups, couples, and families. He has authored or co-authored numerous journal articles, book chapters and books on various aspects of clinical social work practice. He is especially interested in brief therapy, couples and family therapy, and strengths-based approaches to treatment especially solution-focused/ solution-oriented and narrative treatments. Dr. Greene was co-editor of the first edition of Social Workers’ Desk Reference published by Oxford University Press in 2002 and is co-author with Dr. Mo Yee Lee of the book Solution-Oriented Social Work Practice: An Integrative Approach to Working with Client Strengthspublished by Oxford University Press in January, 2011. In collaboration with four other clinicians/scholars, Dr. Greene is co-developer of Integrative Family and Systems Treatment (I-FAST) which is an evidence-informed strength-based common factors approach to working with at-risk children, adolescents, and families. Articles on I-FAST have recently been published in the journals Research on Social Work Practice, Administration and Policy in Mental Health, Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, Children & Schools, and Administration in Social Work. Oxford University Press recently published the I-FAST training and treatment manual Integrative Family and Systems Treatment: A Strengths-Based Common Factors Approach. Dr. Greene and his four collaborators continue to develop and research the effectiveness of Integrative Family and Systems Treatment (I-FAST). Several mental health agencies in Ohio have been trained in I-FAST and data continue to be collected on the effectiveness of this strength-based common factors approach to working with at-risk children, youth, and families.
