Bill Horrigan has been with the Wexner Center since the center opened in 1989. Until he was appointed Curator-at-Large in fall 2010, he headed up the center's media arts department. That department presents public screenings of film and video, brings in visiting filmmakers, offers residencies, and operates the Film/Video Studio Program. As Curator-at-Large, Horrigan works across curatorial departments at the Wexner Center for the Arts.

Horrigan has curated a number of gallery installations for the Wexner, starting when the center opened in 1989 with Julia Scher’s Occupational Placement. Other projects include Todd Haynes and Christine Vachon’s Domestic Violence (1996), Bruce and Norman Yonemoto’s A Matter of Memory (1996), Mark Dion’s Cabinet of Curiosities for the Wexner Center (1997), Phil Collins’s They Shoot Horses (2005), Shirin Neshat: Two Installations (2000), Robert Beck: dust (2007), Adi Nes: Biblical Stories (2008), and Johan van der Keuken: From ‘The Body and the City’ (2001). Horrigan has also worked with French filmmaker Chris Marker on several projects, including the artist’s first installation for an American institution, Silent Movie (1995), which toured to numerous institutions internationally, and Staring Back (2007), the artist’s first photographic exhibition, which also toured internationally. Most recently he curated a photographic installation by artist Zoe Strauss.

After completing his doctorate in film from Northwestern University in 1979, Horrigan worked at Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. He’s developed freelance media projects for various institutions, including Video Against AIDS for the Video Data Bank in 1989, and the inaugural film/video series for the American Center in Paris (1994). He was a member of the three-person Advisory Team for the Whitney Museum’s 2008 Biennial exhibition, and is adjunct faculty in Ohio State’s Department of Art History. He contributes to a variety of art and media-related journals and regularly serves on academic and funding panels.
