Paula Mouser investigates the role that microorganisms play in mediating biochemical reactions in environmental systems using biotechnology methods. Her research focus is deep shale microbial process and shallow subsurface environments impacted by waste disposal activities and industrial processes. Applications of such research include improving detection strategies environmental contaminants, understanding the attenuation of contaminants in the environment, and optimizing restoration activities for impacted sites. Prior to joining Ohio State in 2011, Professor Mouser was a research assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Maine and a consulting engineer.
