Fisher College accounting students get inside look at Sarbanes-Oxley Act

COLUMBUS – Approximately 80 Fisher College of Business accounting students will learn how the Sarbanes-Oxley Act has raised the standards for corporate accountability from experts who were instrumental in the bills passage and implementation.

Ohio Congressman Mike Oxley, chair of the House Committee on Financial Services, and Bill Gradison, member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), will address the students tomorrow (2/18) at 7:30 p.m at 140 Pfahl Hall, 280 W. Woodruff Ave.

Oxley co-sponsored the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, which is post-Enron legislation regulating how public companies and accounting firms deal with corporate governance and financial accounting issues.

Gradison is a member of the PCAOB, a private-sector, non-profit corporation created by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act to improve the quality and transparency in financial reporting and independent audits as well as to advance corporate responsibility.

On Thursday, (2/19), Oxley and Gradison will address the same topic with approximately 150 money managers, accountants, investor relations directors, CEOs and political leaders at 7:30 a.m. in the Blackwell Inn, 2110 Tuttle Park Place.

Biographical Information

A resident of Findlay, Ohio, Mike Oxley represents the Fourth Congressional District. He is serving his twelfth term in the House of Representatives. Oxley is the Chairman of the House Committee on Financial Services, which oversees Wall Street, banks and the insurance industry. He received a bachelor's degree from Miami University and a law degree from the Moritz College of Law at Ohio State University.

Bill Gradison is a member of the PCAOB and a former nine-term Congressman from Ohio. Before entering Congress, he was an assistant to the Secretary of Health Education and Welfare, an assistant to the Under Secretary of the Treasury and Mayor of Cincinnati. He holds an undergraduate degree from Yale and an MBA and doctorate from Harvard.
