OHIO STATE FISHER COLLEGE OF BUSINESS HONORS TOP ALUMNI

     COLUMBUS -- Restaurant magnate Alex Schoenbaum, retired
state senator Ted Gray, and financial consultant George Gummer
were recognized with awards Friday (9/16) by the Max M. Fisher
College of Business Alumni Society at The Ohio State University.

     Schoenbaum was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award;
Gray and Gummer were each presented the Alumni Community Service
Award by Joseph A. Alutto, dean of the college.

     Alutto also presented Bryan L. Kelln, a management
consultant, and Lynn M. Edens, a research analyst, with the Young
Professional Achievement Award.

     The recipients were selected by the Alumni Society Awards
Committee from nominations by alumni, faculty, staff and
students.

     Schoenbaum, a resident of Charleston, W.V., and Longboat
Key, Fla., is a director and retired senior chairman of Shoney's
Inc., the company he founded in the 1940s.  Well known for their
philanthropic activities, Schoenbaum and his wife, Betty, have
supported their alma mater, benefiting such programs as the
Schoenbaum Scholars Program, which provides scholarships to
students in the colleges of Business and Education, the
Department of Athletics, and the Betty Schoenbaum Critical
Difference for Women Re-Entry Scholarship Fund.  Schoenbaum is a
member of the Ohio State University Foundation Board and the Max
M. Fisher College of Business Campaign Committee.  Schoenbaum was
an All-American football player at Ohio State, graduating in 1939
with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.

     Gray served in the Ohio Senate from 1951 to 1994, the
longest tenure in state history.  First elected while still a
student at Ohio State, Gray started out in his hometown of Piqua
and after a series of redistricting moves, finished his career as
a resident of Upper Arlington.  He served 10 years as president
pro tempore of the Senate, and chaired a number of committees
over the years.  He graduated from the college in 1950.

     Gummer is president of G.A. Gummer & Associates, a Columbus-
based firm which provides financial consulting services to banks,
savings and loans, corporations and private individuals in the
areas of portfolio management, investment planning and long-term
debt financing.  He serves as executive director of the Ohio
Mortgage Bankers Association of Ohio, and as a board member of
Commerce National Bank, Salesian Inner City Boys' Club, the Ohio
Council on Economic Education, Central Ohio Center for Economic
Education, and St. Catherine's Parish Council.  A former vice
president and division head of Bank One, Gummer graduated from
Ohio State in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in
finance with a minor in accounting.

     Kelln, of Naperville, Ill., is a principal in the Operations
Management Practice at Mercer Management Consulting where he
handles a wide variety of logistics engagements for retailers,
distributors, and manufacturers.  He joined Temple, Barker &
Sloane Inc. in 1990 after earning his Master of Business
Administration degree from Ohio State.  He has returned to Ohio
State to speak with students and offer guidance.  Kelln has a
Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Washington State
University.  He is a member of the Council of Logistics
Management.

     Edens, of New York City, is vice president of Goldman, Sachs
& Co. where she is responsible for coordinating research
strategies and recommendations across all sectors of the domestic
fixed income markets.  She formerly served as head of mortgage
market research.  Edens has twice been named to Institutional
Investor's list of outstanding mortgage market analysts.  She
earned two degrees from Ohio State: a Bachelor of Science degree
in business administration, majoring in finance, and a Master of
Business Administration degree.
