Former U.S. Representative Kasich will discuss politics, media

John Kasich, former U.S Representative from Ohio who now hosts two Fox News programs, will discuss his perceptions of politics and the media from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday (5/13) in the Mershon Center, 1501 Neil Ave. His talk is titled “Watching Washington: Perspectives on American Politics and the American Media.”

Kasich, who hosts two Fox News programs – “From the Heartland” and “Heroes with John Kasich” – is the former chairman of the House Budget Committee and was the chief architect of the plans to balance the budget and to overhaul the national welfare system. Currently, Kasich is a managing director in the Lehman Brothers Investment Banking Division and the chairman of the New Century Project, a group whose aim is to “return power, money and influence to the American people.”

Kasich, a 1974 Ohio State graduate, took a job as an aide in the Ohio Senate after he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He was elected to the Ohio Senate in 1978 and then to the U.S. House in 1982.
