Founder of national teacher corps to speak at Ohio State

Wendy Kopp, founder and president of Teach For America, will deliver a lecture at 4 p.m. on Thursday (10/7) at Weigel Hall, 1866 College Road. Kopp is also the author of “One Day, All Children: The Unlikely Triumph of Teach For America and What I Learned Along the Way.”

Her lecture is sponsored by The John Glenn Institute for Public Service and Public Policy at Ohio State. It is part of the series “Odyssey 2000+ New Issues for a New Century,”which explores a wide array of policy issues including defense, the economy, education and politics.

Teach For America is a national teacher corps that recruits high-achieving recent college graduates who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools. Kopp developed the plan in 1988 as an undergraduate at Princeton University. Since 1989, Teach For America has fielded more than 8,000 corps members in sixteen low-income areas across the United States.

Kopp will be introduced by former Sen. John Glenn. Ohio State Provost Barbara Snyder will welcome the audience. Following the lecture, Glenn Institute Director Deborah Merritt will moderate questions from the audience.
