Gee to Address Senate on Saturday

                         NEWS ADVISORY:
    PRESIDENT GEE TO DELIVER ANNUAL 'STATE OF THE UNIVERSITY'
        ADDRESS TO UNIVERSITY SENATE ON SATURDAY MORNING
                                
     President E. Gordon Gee will address The Ohio State
University Senate at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, in Room 103,
Kottman Hall, 2021 Coffey Road.

     The central theme of his address will be that the university
must invest its resources in the best programs and create new
possibilities.  He will speak about reconfiguring the
university's academic organization, redefining scholarship as the
synthesis of teaching and research, and reasserting the role of
faculty in building a community for students.

     Gee will be available to talk with reporters immediately
after the speech, which is expected to run 35 to 40 minutes in
length.  He then will return to the senate meeting for the
remainder of the agenda.  Texts of the speech will be available
at the senate meeting.

     WOSU-TV will videotape the speech for broadcast on Monday,
Oct. 11, at 7 p.m.
