Gee to Speak to Students about Campus Partners

OHIO STATE PRESIDENT TO SPEAK TO STUDENTS 
ABOUT CAMPUS PARTNERS' RECOMMENDATIONS

     The Campus Partners Student Involvement Committee will sponsor a
studentforum with E. Gordon Gee, president of The Ohio State University, on
Thursday, Oct. 10, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Campus Partners office,
1824 N. High St. (next to Long's Bookstore).  The forum will be free and
open to the public.

     Dr. Gee will speak and answer questions regarding Campus Partners'
recommendations to improve the neighborhoods around the university,
particularly as those recommendations affect the quality of life for
students.  He is expected to begin speaking about 6 p.m.  Joining Dr. Gee at
the forum will be Terry D. Foegler, the new president of Campus Partners.

     "The forum also will be an opportunity for Ohio State students to learn
more about the work of the Student Involvement Committee," explained Kate
Shaw, a fourth-year student, who chairs the committee.  "Students can learn
how they can participate in the planning, policy-making and implementation
of various projects to revitalize the University District."

     The forum will include free food and other refreshments.

     Ohio State created Campus Partners in January 1995 as a non-profit
community redevelopment corporation to lead a revitalization of the
neighborhoods around the university.  Through an 18-month public planning
process, Campus Partners developed a comprehensive revitalization plan which
was published last July.

     The plan includes some 250 recommendations in the areas of the quality
of student life, revitalization of retail and entertainment on High Street,
student rental housing, homeownership, traffic and parking, public safety,
refuse collection, housing and health code enforcement, urban planning and
design, and human services.
