Gees to be Crowned at RenFest

 GEE CORONATION WILL CLOSE OSU MEDIEVAL AND RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL

     The coronation of Ohio State University President E. Gordon
Gee and his wife, Dr. Constance Bumgarner Gee, will ceremoniously
close the annual Medieval and Renaissance Festival this Saturday,
(May 6).

     Clad in period garb, the Gees will be crowned as king and
queen of the festival at 5 p.m. on the South Oval (12th Avenue
and College Road).  The festival begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 6
p.m.

     1995 is the 20th anniversary of the festival at Ohio State.
The festival re-creates life in the Medieval and Renaissance
ages, 500-1500 A.D.  The goal of the event is to promote the
heritage and knowledge of the periods and to provide a glimpse
into the characters of people of long ago.  The Medieval and
Renaissance Festival is free and open to the public.  Visitors
are encouraged to don period garb and add to the flavor of the
day.

     Festivities begin at 11 a.m. with a Grand Processional
through Mirror Lake Hollow.  Throughout the day, visitors will be
entertained by costumed performers juggling, conjuring, dancing
and swordfighting.  Musicians will perform on period instruments
such as harps, recorders, schawms, fifes and viola da gambas.
Gypsy fortune tellers and mime-actors will also delight young and
old.  Crafts and food reminiscent of the Renaissance, as well as
Festival posters and T-shirts, will be sold.

     The OSU Medieval and Renaissance Festival is sponsored by
the Ohio Union Programs Office and the Honors Community
Association.  In case of rain, the festival will move inside the
Ohio Union, 1739 N. High St.
