Generation X Author to Speak Feb. 1

GENERATION X AUTHOR TO SPEAK AT OHIO STATE

     COLUMBUS -- In his landmark bestseller, Generation X: Tales
for an Accelerated Culture, Douglas Coupland gave voice to the
previously invisible group of "twenty something" youth.  In the
process, he popularized the term "Generation X," which has become
part of the nation's vernacular.

     Coupland will discuss the generation during a lecture at The
Ohio State University Feb. 1.

     The speech at 7 p.m. in the Ohio Union Conference Theater,
1739 N. High St., is free and open to the public.  Parking is
available in the parking garage next door.

     Generation X, an instant cult classic, describes life among
disillusioned young adults.  The book was a national bestseller
with more than 150,000 copies in print and was translated into 12
languages.  In his latest bestseller, Shampoo Planet, Coupland
discusses the world of "global teens," the generation after the
Xers.

     The lecture is sponsored by the Student Events Committee at
Ohio State.
