Grad student wins the Project Greenlight Screenplay contest

Erica Beeney, a graduate student in creative writing at The Ohio State University and a graduate associate in the Wexner Center’s grants department, has won the 2nd annual Project Greenlight Screenplay contest for her work, “The Battle of Shaker Heights.”

The winners were announced at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 18. Beeney and the winning director will be making their movie with a guaranteed $1 million budget. The movie is scheduled to be released in the fall.

Beeney’s screenplay is about a war re-enactor who plots with a friend to take on his high school enemy in the Shaker Heights suburb of Cleveland.

The Project Greenlight Contest is presented by LivePlanet, Miramax Films & Television, and Blockbuster. Miramax is financing the production of the film and will release it in theaters; a HBO documentary series shows the filmmaking process.
