Habitat for Humanity at OSU to create awareness of homelessness

Members of Habitat for Humanity at Ohio State are planning a “Sleep Out,” a 12-hour event to create awareness of homelessness.

Participants will “choose” to be homeless by sleeping outside in cardboard boxes for one night in order to create awareness of families that have little choice in their own living conditions. The students will also make sandwiches to distribute to homeless families at local shelters.

The event is from 9 p.m. on Saturday (5/1) to 9 a.m. on Sunday (5/2) near the Habitat for Humanity house being built on the west lawn of the Ohio Union, 1739 N. High St.

Student volunteers have worked since March on building the two-story house that will measure about 23 feet wide and 34 feet deep and will require a total of 598 eight-foot 2“×4“s and 424 shingles.

Cardboard boxes will be available for a $5 donation. All proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity at Ohio State.
