Hayes, Mitsch to testify before Congress

                          NEWS ADVISORY:
  OSU RESEARCHERS SPEAK TO CONGRESS ON WETLANDS, SUPERCOMPUTERS

     Two Ohio State University researchers will share their 
expertise during testimony before Congressional committees 
in the next week.

     William J. Mitsch, professor of natural resources, will 
address the U.S. Senate's Committee on Environment and Public 
Works at 2 p.m. Thursday (3/14) in room 406 of the Dirksen Senate 
Office Building.

     The committee is holding this oversight hearing to review 
progress on wetland mitigation banking under Section 404 of the 
federal Clean Water Act.  Mitsch is a national expert on wetlands 
and is head of the Olentangy River Wetland Research Park, one of 
the most comprehensive wetland research and education
facilities in the nation.

     Edward F. Hayes, vice president for research and professor 
of chemistry, will testify before the Subcommittee on Basic 
Research of the U.S. House of Representatives' Committee on 
Science at 1 p.m. Tuesday (3/19) in room 2318 of the Rayburn 
House Office Building.

     Hayes chaired the Task Force on the Future of the NSF 
Supercomputer Program last year that offered recommendations for 
exploiting the United States' leadership in high performance 
computing.   That group advised that the National Science 
Foundation continue its 10-year-old Supercomputer Centers Program 
and partner more closely with universities, states and industries 
to promote access to that program.
