Hershey named to Government Relations state post

COLUMBUS – R. Ellyn Perrone, vice president for The Ohio State University’s Office of Government Relations, has appointed Jack Hershey as assistant vice president for government relations-state. Hershey is filling an open position that has as its primary focus and responsibility the state budget process.

“Jack’s experience and expertise in the appropriations process, both in the legislative and executive branches, add a critical dimension to the Government Relations team,” Perrone said. “This skill set will be invaluable in a difficult fiscal environment as we seek to increase funding for Ohio State.”

Hershey is currently deputy director of Ohio’s Office of Budget and Management, where he has worked with budget analysts to develop operating and capital budget recommendations for agencies to submit to the Governor. He also has served as director of finance for the Ohio House of Representatives and as a legislative aide to the chairman of the House Finance Committee. He earned his bachelor’s degree in public policy management from the University of Akron.
Hershey says his experience has prepared him for this position.

“The state budget is very important to Ohio State and to Ohio in general,” he said. “Year in and year out, it is the most important issue on the state side. I have seen the budget work its way through the process from several different levels, and am confident that my experience will help Ohio State move forward with its agenda.”

Hershey’s appointment is effective on May 24.
