High on Pride Clean Up this Weekend

                         NEWS ADVISORY:
        "HIGH ON PRIDE" CAMPUS CLEANUP IS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

     Some 2,000 Ohio State University students, faculty and staff 
are expected to join neighborhood residents in the fourth "High 
on Pride" University Community Cleanup on Saturday, April 27, 
from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Volunteers will pick up litter, remove 
bulk trash, sweep streets and sidewalks, and collect recyclables 
in the neighborhood north of campus. The area covers 135 city 
blocks with 50 miles of sidewalk and more than 30 miles of 
roadway.  The north boundary is Parkway Drive, the south is Lane 
Avenue and the east is the railroad tracks.  The western boundary 
is the Olentangy River.

     The cleanup kick-off will be on Friday, April 26, at Medary 
Elementary School, 2500 Medary St., at 10:30 a.m.  Ohio State 
President Gordon Gee will be joined by Mark Hatch, president of 
the Columbus Board of Education; Larry Mixon, superintendent of 
Columbus Public Schools; Ohio State students; community members 
and Medary students in planting a Butterfly Garden, a 1,200-foot 
life-cycle habitat with 300 plantings to support butterflies in 
all their growth stages. On Saturday, April 27, Gee will greet 
volunteers at 9 a.m. at the registration area at the Jesse Owens 
North Recreation Center at 2151 Neil Avenue.

     All volunteers will receive free T-shirts and will be served 
coffee, juice, donuts, fresh fruits and soft drinks. Radio 
station CD101 will broadcast from the plaza area all morning, 
providing music and public address announcements.

the Cleanup, stop by the registration tables at the Jesse Owens 
North Recreation Center between 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
