High Street traffic to be affected by campus area construction

COLUMBUS -- Construction work on and around North High Street and Eleventh Avenue will reduce High Street to two lanes and signify the start of an extensive public improvements project in The Ohio State University’s south campus area.

Located at the South Campus Gateway site, the project includes the installation and separation of storm and sanitary sewers, burial of utility lines, the replacement of a water main, and the widening and reconstruction of High Street. This construction at times will involve the temporary closing of several area streets. Total project completion is slated for November 2003.

The project and street closure timeline is as follows:

Friday, May 2—Installation of the new storm sewer begins on High Street at 12th Avenue, proceeding south.

Monday, May 5—High Street is narrowed to one lane in each direction until late August. West 11th Avenue is closed from High Street to Wall Alley until approximately June 10 to continue sewer improvements.

Tuesday, May 13—East 11th Avenue is closed from High Street to east of the existing Pearl Street to complete continued work. East 11th Avenue will be reopened by Aug. 28. Parking permits for a nearby lot will be issued as necessary to East 11th Avenue residents.

H.R. Gray & Associates, of Columbus, the construction manager on the project, is responsible for the overall coordination and oversight of the project. Complete General Construction serves as the general contractor in the project.
