Hispanic Week Looks at Latin America
OHIO STATE TO LOOK AT THE HISTORY, CULTURES OF LATIN AMERICA
COLUMBUS -- The formation of Latin America in the 19th=20
century was an arduous process, resulting in a period of flux=20
between each country=92s colonial past and its national=20
independence. April 19 and 20, the Department of Spanish and=20
Portuguese at The Ohio State University will re-visit Latin=20
America=92s turbulant history.
The discussion, =93National Subjects and Discourses in Latin=20
America=92s 19th Century: A Colloquium (Coloquio: Sujetos Y=20
Discursos Nacionales En Hispanoamerica, Siglo XIX),=94 is just one=20
event in the university=92s 18th annual Hispanic Awareness Week,=20
April 14-21.
The colloquium will be held in the second floor Main Lounge=20
of the Ohio Union, 1739 N. High St. Most of the presentations=20
will be given in Spanish. On April 19, topics include:

Ana Merino, winner of the Adonais Literary Award.
Hispanic Awareness Week begins 3-5 p.m. Sunday, April 14,=20
with Fiesta =9196, a celebration with food, Latin music, games and=20
activities for all ages. The festival will be at Whetstone Park,=20
3923 N. High St.
