Holbrook, Tiberi to join leaders in discussion of e-schools

Rep. Pat Tiberi and President Holbrook will join local and national online education experts at 7 p.m. on Friday (4/1) in the ballrooms of the Blackwell, 2110 Tuttle Park Place, as part of a conference examining the future of e-schools. Tiberi is the keynote speaker.

The conference, titled “Schools Online: Implications for K-12 Education,” is on Friday (4/1) and Saturday (4/2) on Ohio State’s campus. It focuses on e-schools, the fastest growing sector of public K-12 education. It will examine issues like the differences and similarities between traditional and online schools, and what are the particular challenges and advantages of e-schools?

In 2004, nearly 100,000 K-12 students attended online schools across the United States, more than twice the number attending in 2001. The nation’s first public K-12 online school, the Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow, was founded in Ohio and will be used as a case study to discuss the technology, policy and economic issues e-schools face nationally.

The Ohio State University’s Digital Union, John Glenn Institute for Public Service and Public Policy, P-12 Project, and Technology Enhanced Learning and Research program will host the event in an effort to pursue research and policy discussions that will promote a broad public understanding of online learning.
