Homecoming 2005 celebration honors campus history

COLUMBUS – Homecoming festivities begin today (10/10) on The Ohio State University campus and kickoff a week-long schedule of events that include a multicultural Greek Step Show, the annual homecoming parade and the Stefanie Spielman Walk/Run for Breast Cancer. "Buckeyes through the Decades" is the theme for the 93rd anniversary celebration that takes place through Oct. 16.

Jennifer Bossard, senior coordinator for Student Involvement and staff chair of the steering committee, said that events were planned to address the wide-range interests of faculty, staff and students.

"The activities provide an intentional focus on the history of Homecoming and Ohio State," Bossard said. "It was equally important to the committee to incorporate our theme through programming that reflects the varied interest of the university community and our alumni."

Many new events and activities were planned to incorporate academic enrichment, community service, cultural and ethnic diversity, and team and community spirit.

These components and our more traditional events such as the parade and pep rally, and our homecoming court have contributed to Ohio State's great history and will attribute to its future success, said Rachel Wendel, undergraduate chair of the homecoming committee.
