Johnnetta Cole to highlight King celebration

Johnnetta Cole, president of Bennett College for Women in Greensboro, North Carolina, will deliver the keynote address at The Ohio State University's 34th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at 7 p.m. Thursday (1/12) in the Ohio Union Ballrooms (1739 N. High St.). "Legacy: Building the Beloved Community," is the theme of the 2006 celebration, which is free and open to the public. The event will also feature musical selections from the Ohio State African-American Voices Gospel Choir.

Cole's career as an educator and humanitarian spans over three decades. She was the first African American woman to serve as president of Spelman College and was the first African American to serve as Chair of the Board of United Way of America. Her published works, speeches and community service address issues of race, gender, equality, and human rights.
