Jumpstart-for-a-Day prepares children to be successful students

Preparing pre-school children to be successful students is the goal behind Ohio State’s Jumpstart-for-a-Day program from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday (5/10) at the main branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, 96 S. Grant St. Between 100 and 200 students are expected to attend.

Jumpstart Columbus, the College of Human Ecology’s program to help prepare children in the Weinland Park area to succeed in school, is sponsoring the event that features numerous stations where children can practice school readiness skills through activities that involve active play. The event is open to the public.

Since the program began in 2002, Ohio State students taking part in Jumpstart Columbus have logged more than 8,000 community-service hours working with pre-school children in the Weinland Park area. For more information about Jumpstart Columbus, see http://hec.osu.edu/news/program/jumpstart.htm.
