Karen Gallagher Receives Student Award

GALLAGHER RECEIVES STUDENT RECOGNITION AWARD

     COLUMBUS -- Karen Lee Gallagher, a fourth-year medical 
student, has won The Ohio State University Board of Trustees 
Student Recognition Award.  The award was presented during the 
Sept. 13 meeting of the board.

     Gallagher was honored for her work in organizing the 
Reaching Out Program, a collegewide community service project of 
Ohio State medical students who volunteer in various community 
organizations.

     A 1991 honors graduate of Ball State University, Gallagher 
is a student affairs committee member of the Ohio Academy of 
Family Practice and a free clinic volunteer with the Academy of 
Medicine and Physicians.  She represented Ohio State at the 
national meeting of the American Medical Association with a 
poster presentation of the Reaching Out Program, and won first 
place in the exhibit.  Gallagher also volunteers at Linden 
McKinley High School in Columbus as an assistant athletic 
trainer.

     Gallagher is the daughter of Marie and Carl Schamburg of Des 
Plaines, Ill.  A 1987 graduate of Main West High School, 
Gallagher lives in COLUMBUS (43214) with her husband Tom.  She is 
scheduled receive her medical degree in June 1997.
