Kirwan to Close Ohio Bicentennial Lecture Series

William E. Kirwan, chancellor of the University System of Maryland and former Ohio State president, will discuss “A Retrospective on Ohio’s Quality of Life: A Consideration of Roads Taken and Roads Not Taken for the 21st Century” at 3:30 p.m. Thursday (6/12) in 100 Independence Hall, 1923 Neil Ave. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The event is part of The Ohio Bicentennial Distinguished Lecture Series, titled “Ohio and the World.” The series was launched in March and has featured scholars discussing different themes related to Ohio’s continuing development. Kirwan’s address is the last in an eight-part series.

Kirwan served as president of Ohio State for nearly four years before assuming his current position in August 2002. In addition to his lecture, Kirwan will receive an honorary doctorate of education at spring quarter commencement Friday (6/13) in Ohio Stadium.
