Kirwan to build case for increased higher ed funding
Ohio’s economy suffers from lack of college-degree holders, says OSU president

Ohio State University William E. Kirwan will present his case for funding higher education in a Columbus Metropolitan Club address, “Ohio at the Crossroads: The Choice is Ours,” at the Athletic Club of Columbus from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14.

Increased funding for a seamless system of public education from pre-school through graduate school could halt Ohio’s decades-long downward economic trajectory, Kirwan says. Ohio currently ranks 42nd among the 50 states in public investment per full-time college student. Such under-funding has a significant impact on the number of educated citizens prepared to compete in the new information-based economy. Ohio ranks 38th in the nation in the percentage of population with a bachelor’s degree or higher.
