Lecturer will discuss “cultural competence” in the workplace

Edwin J. Nichols will deliver “Creating Culturally Competent Leaders in Education” at 4 p.m. on Tuesday (11/4) in the Ohio Union East Ballroom, 1739 N. High St. His lecture is part of the President and Provost’s “Diversity Lecture Series” and is hosted by the Office of Human Resources. This event is free and open to the public.

Nichols is a clinical/industrial psychologist specializing in organizational development. One of Nichols’ areas of expertise is helping leaders and their organizations gain an edge by developing “cultural competence.” He has served as a consultant and trainer of trainers to foreign governments, Fortune 500 companies, and national government agencies. He is currently director of Nichols and Associates, Inc. an applied behavioral science firm.

In his lecture, Nichols will emphasize the importance of developing leaders and work teams that are “culturally competent,” understanding how socialization influences our decision-making process in the work place, understanding the impact diversity has on our national survival, and creating an atmosphere of mutual respect to enhance workplace productivity.
