Mansfield Campus Board of Trustees

OHIO STATE MANSFIELD TO GET REGIONAL BOARD OF TRUSTEES

COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State University Board of Trustees
Friday (6/3) voted to create a local board of trustees for the
Mansfield Regional Campus.

The new board will replace the Citizens Council which was
organized in October 1972.

The Mansfield board will consist of 11 members appointed by
the university board and will include one university trustee,
nine Mansfield area residents, and a non-voting Ohio State
student enrolled at the Mansfield Campus. Members generally will
serve three-year staggered terms with the student serving a one-
year appointment.

John Riedl, dean and director of the Mansfield campus,
supported the formation of a local campus board.

"I see this step as an affirmation of the important role
that OSU envisions for its regional campuses. Through us, OSU
touches the lives of thousands of individuals. The OSU trustees
have demonstrated that they are dedicated to meeting these
regional needs."

Powers and duties of the new board will include advising the
dean/director concerning local educational needs, participating
in strategic planning for the campus and reviewing campus current
funds and capital budgets.

The board will also assume the rules of the Citizens Council
in developing support for the campus both in the community and
with government agencies. John Roby, president of the Citizens
Council, stated, "Having a local board will enable us to present
a more definitive view of our local needs. The direct link with
the OSU Board of Trustees will help the board represent the
educational needs of this community."

Under board bylaws, trustees will serve without pay, but may
be reimbursed for expenses.

The Mansfield Campus Board will have executive, finance, and
campus facilities and planning committees.

Mansfield is the second Ohio State campus to get a local
board of trustees. The university board voted in April to create
a similar board for the Newark Regional Campus.
