Mario Cuomo will visit Ohio State on April 14

COLUMBUS – Mario Cuomo, the longest serving Democratic governor of New York in modern history, will be the featured guest in The Ohio State University’s First Year Distinguished Speaker Series at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday (4/14) at Weigel Hall Auditorium, 1866 College Road.

Sponsored each spring by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and First Year Experience, the speaker series was developed to give first-year students the opportunity to interact with world opinion leaders. U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young was the inaugural speaker last year.

A limited number of free tickets are available to the university community and the general public beginning today (4/5) at the first floor reception desk in Enarson Hall, 154 W. 12th Ave.

Cuomo served three consecutive terms as the governor of New York beginning in 1982. He established records for popularity in both his 1986 and 1990 re-election bids, earning the highest percentage of votes and largest margins of victory in the state’s history.

The author of numerous articles and books, Cuomo will discuss his recent book, “Reason to Believe,” which provides his political assessment of the country’s past, present and future. He also will visit with Ohio State students and faculty throughout the day.

Cuomo received his bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University in 1953 and is a 1956 graduate of its law school. He is a practicing attorney with Willkie Farr & Gallagher in New York City.
