The Ohio State University will mark the opening of an outreach office in downtown Cleveland, aimed at encouraging more students in the greater Cleveland area to attend Ohio State. Media are invited to attend the reception to announce the opening and interview officials following remarks, which begin at 4:30 p.m.

The Ohio State University Recruitment and Outreach Center is the first such office opened in Cleveland. It will work in partnership with the Higher Education Compact of Greater Cleveland to champion the culture of college-going in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, offer advice and counseling to students interested in Ohio State, and increase the overall college-going rate for the Greater Cleveland area.

A gift from Forest City Enterprises, Inc. will allow Ohio State to lease space for the office on the 17th floor of the Terminal Tower at no charge for three years. Ronald A. Ratner, executive vice president and director of Forest City Enterprises, is a member of The Ohio State University Board of Trustees.

The center is one of many student-focused university initiatives in Cleveland. Others include the Young Scholars Program and the Managing the Application Program. In addition, Ohio State Extension works with community partners to create and maintain approximately 200 community gardens in Cuyahoga County.

There are more than 4,000 Ohio State students and more than 23,000 alumni in Cuyahoga County.
