Michigan State students return to campus with message of support from Ohio State

Airplane carries banner sharing Buckeye Love

Michigan State University students are coming back to campus this weekend for the first time since the horrendous tragedy that took the lives of three students, injured five others and traumatized their community and their loved ones.

As students, faculty and staff in East Lansing begin the difficult journey of recovery, they are receiving messages of support from their peers, including students and employees from The Ohio State University community.

Members of the Ohio State community joined a grassroots effort known as Spartan Sunday. The goal is to shower students with notes of encouragement, small tokens of gratitude and supportive activities. The effort included an airplane flying above the campus on Sunday with a banner that read “We are with you. Spartan Strong.  ❤Ohio State.”

Ohio State Senior Vice President for the Office of Student Life Melissa Shivers sent a letter to students with suggestions on how to get involved:

“Our Culture Commitments of ‘Care’ and ‘Support’ are important in how we show up for each other and our students, and I think it’s also important in the way we interact with colleagues across the nation,” Shivers said. “Please join me in showering MSU with our #BuckeyeLove as they heal and come back together [Sunday] and throughout the week.”
