Michigan Week Activities Scheduled

BUCKEYE SPIRIT WEEK TO ENCOURAGE RESPONSIBLE CELEBRATIONS

     COLUMBUS -- As the Buckeye football team prepares to meet 
Michigan in the last game of the season, The Ohio State 
University has planned a week's worth of activities to encourage 
students to celebrate responsibly before, during and after the 
game.

     "We're trying to appropriately channel the energy, 
excitement and enthusiasm that surrounds this traditional 
football rivalry," said Kathy Cleveland Bull, acting director of 
the Office of Student Life.

     "We are encouraging all of our students to celebrate 
responsibly, and we are providing numerous on-campus activities 
as alternatives to the off-campus celebrations that have caused 
problems in the past."

     Among the activities planned are:
                        GAME DAY SATURDAY
     Pancake breakfast on Saturday morning.  Bob Evans 
Restaurants will provide free pancake and sausage breakfasts from 
9 to 11 a.m. in Larkins Hall.  Campus dining commons will also 
serve free pancakes and sausages to students and their guests.

     Spirit Tunnel.  Fans are invited to line 15th Avenue between 
Summit and High Streets to cheer the football team as the buses 
pass down the street enroute to the stadium.  Fans should
assemble by 9:30 a.m., with the buses expected around 9:50 a.m.

     Watch the game on TV.  Students without tickets to the game 
can gather at Woody's Place in the Ohio Union, Archie's Place in 
the Drake Union, or the Frank W. Hale Jr. Black Cultural Center 
to watch the game on television.

     After the game.  Larkins Hall recreation center will be open 
until 2 a.m. for sports, karaoke and card games.  The movie 
"Independence Day" will be shown for free at 7 and 10 p.m. in the 
Drake Union's Thurber Theater.  All residence halls will sponsor 
activities.

                         FRIDAY, NOV. 22
     Radio broadcast.  WBZX (The Blitz) will broadcast its 
morning show live from Woody's Place in the Ohio Union from 7 to 
10 a.m.  Contests, prizes and celebrity guests are planned.

     Senior tackle.  The traditional tribute to the senior 
members of the football team will take place at 5 p.m. in Ohio 
Stadium.  Sixteen seniors will take final, ceremonial hits on the 
tackling dummy.

     Pep rally and bonfire in the French Fieldhouse parking lot 
will immediately follow the Senior Tackle.  Sponsored by Ohio 
Staters Inc. and featuring the Marching Band, cheerleaders, team 
members and coaches.

     Free music and entertainment.  At the Ohio Union, The 
Lilybandits Band will perform at Woody's Place at 9 p.m.  At the 
Drake Union River Den, there will be a coffeehouse with free food 
and open microphone for spontaneous performances from 7 to 10 
p.m.

                       THROUGHOUT THE WEEK

     Banner contests.  Bed sheets decorated with messages of 
support for the team will be flying at residence halls and in the 
neighborhood east of campus, as students compete for prizes for 
most spirited banners.

     Window decorating contest.  Registered student organizations 
can compete for prizes as they decorate some 20 designated 
windows in the student unions.  Area businesses are being 
encouraged to decorate their windows, and residence halls are 
also holding decorating contests.

     Operation Fill-Up food drive.  Residents of the east of 
campus neighborhood will be given grocery bags in which to place 
non-perishable food donations for local food pantries.  Student 
volunteers will collect the bags on Thursday (11/21)
