National Science Foundation director will lead fifth-grade class today

Dr. Rita Colwell, Director of the National Science Foundation, will visit Franklinton Elementary School today (10/11) from 2-2:30, where she will lead a fifth-grade class in an airplane experiment, with science fellows from the NSF-sponsored program, “Science Fellows Assisting Teachers in the Classroom.”

The program has teamed Ohio State undergraduate and graduate science majors with elementary school teachers who work together to plan hands-on science experiments that demonstrate science concepts to students, to help them better prepare for Ohio proficiency exams. Dr. Colwell initiated this program at the NSF soon after she began as director in 1998. The program has been in place at Ohio State since 1999.
