“Bucks Bus” promotes student financial wellness – March 29. The Office of Student Life’s Scarlet and Gray Financial coaches will offer interested students a ride to class on a “Bucks Bus” on Tuesday, March 29, and have them answer questions about financial literacy for prizes along the way. Patterned after the television show “Cash Cab,” the event will promote financial education and give students the opportunity to see just how much they know about their money. Ohio State holds sixth Hiphop Literacies Conference: Black Women and Girls’ Lives Matter – March 30 and 31. Hiphop isn’t just about the lyrics. The Ohio State University’s Hiphop Literacies Conference invites students, educators, scholars, artists and performers to learn to use hiphop as a form of education and a hiphop conference as a place to engage youth.
The event will take place on Wednesday, March 30, and Thursday, March 31, at the Frank W. Hale Black Cultural Center, 154 W. 12th Ave. It will feature speakers from hiphop studies, women’s studies, and public health and education, a film screening and more. A concert headlined by internationally known poet and performance artist Jessica Care Moore will conclude the event. The event is $5 for Ohio State affiliates and $10 for non-Ohio State affiliates; registration is required. SEE: go.osu.edu/hhlc2016. Symposium explores research collaborations between Ohio State and Brazil’s Brazil’s São Paulo Research Foundation – March 31 and April 1. Researchers and representatives from Ohio State and Brazil’s São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) will hold a two-day symposium to celebrate the success of research collaborations taking place and explore new areas of expansion for Ohio State-Brazil partnerships. The FAPESP Week Symposium takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 31 and April 1 at the Faculty Club, 181 S. Oval Drive.
Key topics will include FAPESP international strategy; decision making and decision sciences; agriculture and water; bioinformatics and data analytics; materials and manufacturing; Brazil, Latin America and the U.S.; medicine and health; and funding research and innovation.
Ohio State has maintained research and teaching collaborations with the University of São Paulo’s Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture in Piracicaba for more than 50 years. In 2013, Ohio State and FAPESP strengthened their partnership by entering into a joint funding agreement to support research and innovation. To date, $1.4 million has been invested to strengthen existing collaborations and seed new research partnerships between researchers from Ohio State and FAPESP that help citizens in both countries and people around the world. Ohio State holds African American Heritage Festival – April 3-8. The 38th Annual African American Heritage Festival begins on Sunday, April 3, on the Ohio State campus. The theme is “Mshikamano,” which means “Solidarity” in Swahili. The theme, Hand in hand, we stand, will be incorporated in programming and events throughout the week of the festival. The celebration begins with a gospel fest at 6 p.m. on April 3, at the Ohio Union Performance Hall, 1739 N.
