Construction to close football game day parking lots

Where to park - 2017 Ohio State football

The Ohio State University remains focused on physical planning to support its academic mission. One important construction project outlined in the university's framework plan is the relocation of Cannon Drive (learn more).

Beginning September 5, 2017, the straightening and elevating of Cannon Drive will support future growth of the university and the Medical Center by:

  • Creating 12 acres of developable land
  • Serving as future flood protection
  • Creating an eventual north-south connection between King and Lane Avenues
  • Enhancing green space in the Olentangy River corridor

The first phase of construction is expected to run through the fall of 2019. As a result, starting September 5, Cannon Drive will close for construction between 12th Avenue and Medical Center Drive. Access to the SR-315 on-ramp and off-ramp will be maintained during football season - though intermittent closures could occur this fall during overnight hours.

The Polo and Dodd surface parking lots, located along Cannon Drive, will close the night of Sept. 4. The project will remove 2,100 parking spaces.

Fans who have traditionally parked in these lots are encouraged to:

  • Arrive early
  • Avoid the Medical Center area and expect travel delays
  • Park in the 9th Ave. Garage or in West Campus lots (near Kenny Road)
  • Convenient CABS shuttles run from the west campus lots to the Ohio Stadium area.

Athletics, Ohio State Police and University Transportation experts are working with local law enforcement partners to help fans find convenient game day parking for the 2017 season.

While we recognize this will be an inconvenience, it is important that Cannon Drive construction begin as soon as possible. It is easier for fans if we make parking and transportation changes prior to the season rather than changing offerings week-to-week.
